1. Introduction and who we are
GreenBridge ("GreenBridge", "we", "us" or "our") is an independent solar advisory service based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, operating the website greenbridgeca.com (the "Site"). We help homeowners across the Atlantic provinces and the rest of Canada decide whether rooftop solar is a practical fit for their property. Rather than selling panels directly, we act as a bridge between households and a vetted network of certified installers, offering free property assessments, regional sunlight and savings estimates, plain-language guidance on rebate programs, and fair comparisons of financing options.
This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through the Site, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices and rights available to you. We are committed to handling your personal information responsibly and in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA, S.C. 2000, c. 5), Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL, S.C. 2010, c. 23), and any applicable provincial privacy legislation. By using the Site or submitting a form, you consent to the practices described in this policy.
2. Personal information we collect
We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary to provide our advisory service. The categories of information we collect include:
- Identity information: your full name, provided when you complete our free estimate or contact form.
- Contact information: your email address, submitted through our contact form and newsletter sign-up so we can respond to you and send your savings estimate.
- Property and energy information: details you choose to share such as your average monthly electricity bill, your province, roof orientation, and any notes about your home. This information allows us to prepare a meaningful, personalised savings estimate.
- Communication content: the contents of any message you send us through the Site or by email.
- Technical information: your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, and the pages you view on the Site. This is collected automatically through server logs and cookies.
- Cookie data: small files that record your consent preference and help us understand how the Site is used. See our Cookie Policy for full details.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information such as health, financial account numbers, or government identification, and we do not require it to provide an estimate. Please do not submit such information through our forms.
3. Why we collect and use your information
GreenBridge uses the personal information we collect for the following specific purposes:
- To prepare and deliver your free, personalised solar savings estimate based on your bill, province, and roof details.
- To respond to your enquiries and provide plain-language guidance on solar suitability, rebate programs such as the Canada Greener Homes initiative, and financing options.
- To match your request with appropriate certified installers in our vetted network so you can compare quotes fairly.
- To send, with your consent, occasional newsletter updates about changing rebates and seasonal solar tips. You may withdraw this consent at any time.
- To maintain the security and integrity of the Site and prevent fraudulent or abusive use.
- To analyse aggregate, non-identifying statistics that help us improve our content and service.
- To meet our legal and regulatory obligations under Canadian law.
4. Consent
Under PIPEDA, we collect, use, and disclose personal information only with your knowledge and consent, except where required or permitted by law. When you submit a form on the Site, you provide express consent for us to use your details for the purpose stated on that form. For our newsletter, we rely on your express opt-in consent in compliance with CASL, and every message we send includes a clear unsubscribe mechanism. You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting us at info@greenbridgeca.com. Withdrawing consent may limit our ability to provide certain parts of our service, such as completing your estimate.
5. Disclosure of information to third parties
GreenBridge does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We disclose information only in the limited circumstances described below:
- Certified installers: where you ask us to obtain quotes, we share the relevant property and contact details with one or more accredited installers in our network so they can prepare a quote. We share only what is necessary for that purpose.
- Service providers: we use trusted third parties for website hosting and email delivery. These providers process information on our behalf under contractual confidentiality obligations and only as needed to perform their services.
- Legal requirements: we may disclose information where required to comply with a law, regulation, court order, or lawful request from a public authority.
Where personal information is processed or stored outside of Canada by a service provider, it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction. We take reasonable steps to ensure that any such provider offers a comparable level of protection.
6. Retention and safeguards
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law. As a general rule, contact and estimate information is kept for up to two years after our last interaction with you, after which it is securely deleted or anonymised. Cookie data is retained for the periods described in our Cookie Policy.
We protect your information with safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including SSL/TLS encryption of data in transit, access controls that limit who within GreenBridge can view personal information, secure hosting environments, and organisational measures such as confidentiality commitments from our team. While no method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure, we work continuously to protect your information against loss, theft, and unauthorised access, disclosure, or modification.
7. Your rights
Under PIPEDA and applicable provincial law, you have the right to:
- Know whether we hold personal information about you and to access that information;
- Be told how your personal information has been used and to whom it has been disclosed;
- Request correction of personal information that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- Withdraw your consent to the continued use of your information, subject to legal or contractual limits;
- Request deletion of your personal information where there is no continuing lawful basis to retain it;
- Make a complaint about our handling of your personal information.
To exercise any of these rights, email us at info@greenbridgeca.com. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe, generally within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you have the right to contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
8. Cookies
The Site uses cookies to remember your consent preference and to understand how visitors use our content. When you first visit, a banner lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies. You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. For a full description of the cookies we use and how to control them, please read our Cookie Policy.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, provide additional notice on the Site. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
10. Contact us
